10 Biggest Video Game Botches Of 2021
7. Battlefield 2042's Early Access Launch
If nothing else, Battlefield 2042 was one of 2021's most ambitious titles.
For the first time in the series, Battlefield 2042 stripped away its single-player campaign but made up for it with cross-platform play and the biggest maps in the franchise, capable of supporting 128-player matches on next-gen consoles and PC.
With such sweeping changes on the cards, the game went through a frustrating and delayed-release, with developers DICE citing everything from the size of the development team to the pandemic as a reason for the game being delayed until November.
Sadly, the delays didn't help make Battlefield 2042 the triumphant reinvention of the series it should have been. The early access release made it clear that the sequel needed even more time in the oven. Hit-reg issues, constant matchmaking bugs and a lack of content made many fans furious at being glorified QA testers.
The all-out huge visuals and chaotic maps were well-received as being good representatives of an actual warzone, however the un-loved Hazard Zone mode and removal of classes in favour of 10 'specialists' that players can play as really shackled Battlefield 2042 to its middling reception.
