10 Biggest WTF Moments In Mass Effect History
2. Shepard Shoots Mordin In The Back
The Salarian scientist Mordin Solus is one of the most popular characters of the Mass Effect trilogy. Introduced in Mass Effect 2, his fast-talking pragmatism immediately leaves a huge impression, and the more you learn about him and his past, the more fascinating he becomes.
All this is to say that by the time comes for him to sacrifice himself for the future of the Krogans in Mass Effect 3, you are really attached to him. However, it gets so much worse depending on how much you disagree with Mordin's motives, which can culminate with Shepard shooting Mordin in the back to stop him.
There's no getting around it; this moment is absolutely gut-wrenching. Shepard comes off as an immoral monster; in fact it's quite jarring how nasty a person it makes our hero out to be. Even if you do disagree with Mordin's rationale behind reversing the genophage, killing a friend in cold blood is a low for most people, let alone the savior of the galaxy.
