Though the original Telltale's Walking Dead is criticized for being a linear experience these days, most people admit that its ending is still a gut-wrenching rollercoaster of misery.

And it's mostly due to the fact that the game tricks you into thinking you could avoid Lee's fate.

In the final act, despite all the hardships and struggles Lee has endured, he unfortunately gets bitten by a walker. At this point, your group gives you two options: you can either amputate his arm and hope it stops the transformation or choose to ignore it and spend whatever time you have left helping Clementine and the other survivors make it out of Savannah alive.

Now, the choice seems to hold great connotations for Lee, and since losing a hand will greatly hamper his abilities, most players assume sacrificing it might actually save Lee.

However, in the end, no matter what you pick, the infection still spreads through his body, and Clementine has to put him down in what is one of the saddest moments in the series.

The ending does a great job of portraying the dreadful hopelessness of the apocalypse, proving that even huge sacrifices can't save you in the face of the inevitable.
