10 BONE-BREAKING Video Game Moves That Made You Wince

8. Ermac's X-Ray - Mortal Kombat X

Many fighting games have a mechanic that allows the player to fill up a gauge to pull off a super move. The 2011 remake of Mortal Kombat introduced a concept like this called X-Ray Moves. Activating this mode causes the player to pull off a sequence of attacks that shows an x-ray of their opponent's bones and organs while they are being skewered, ruptured, and shattered.

The mechanic was such a hit, it was reincorporated into the sequel, Mortal Kombat X. Although every player's X-Ray in this game is beyond disgusting, Ermac's takes the proverbial cake.

When activated, the telekinetic ninja levitates into the air before launching himself at his rival like a bullet. He then performs the most painful looking headbutt, not just in games, but possibly in all of fiction. Ermac follows up with a telekinetic kick to the neck before shattering their skull with a driving kick.

As painful as these moves look, there's nothing that looks as devastating as the headbutt. (It doesn't even make sense. Surely, that would make his own head explode, right?) The impact is so visceral, it makes you wince more than the most gruesome Fatalities the game has to offer.
