The game that made Hideo Kojima a household name. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty already had high expectations leading up to its release in 2001 after the stellar reception of MGS1 a few years prior. The game people got was beyond anything thought possible in the early 2000s.

The whole game was completely dynamic. How you approached each mission could vary your level of success greatly. Taking out each of the enemies with your tranq gun might be the easiest option, but commanders on other parts of the map will soon ask for status reports and send reinforcements to your area.

You can hold-up enemies, kill enemies, subdue enemies, hide from them in cardboard boxes - you name it, MSG2 could probably do it. This gameplay is bundles with an excellent insane story (which would soon be a design associated with the main man himself) and breathtaking cinematics.

MSG2 was epic. Its 20 hour run time, to our modern sensibilities, seems short but it is the perfect package of excellent gameplay, stunning graphics and excellent storytelling. A game made at a time where both developer and publisher were at the height of their powers (oh what a wonderful time it was).
