10 Brilliant Video Games Buried Under TERRIBLE Mechanics

8. Marvel's Avengers - The Loot System

Somehow it feels ridiculous to say that a game where you can play as Iron Man, Captain America, and Hulk in a co-op setting isn't quite what it could have been.

The problem that plagues the newest iteration of Earth's Mightiest Heroes is a simple fix, and it involves removing the loot system. Too many video games today focus around the idea of forced RPG mechanics, to the detriment of the rest of the game.

So now, in a predominantly action focused third-person beat 'em up, players have been tasked with the constant grind that is the looter shooter style grindathon. Combine that with the fact that every fight feels like it's the exact same thing over and over again makes for one of the most repetitive and least satisfying superhero games of recent memory.

Perhaps it would have been better to focus on the idea of the tight and responsive action. Jumping into a fight with a horde of baddies should be fun and engaging. Instead all we got was a bland and "safe" leap into a licensed mediocre superhero RPG.

Should have just left it at Ultimate Alliance, Marvel.
