10 Brilliant Video Games Buried Under TERRIBLE Mechanics
6. PAYDAY 2 - The Grind
Imagine that scene at the beginning of the Dark Knight, the one where Joker and crew rob a bank wearing highly detailed clown masks. Now imagine that exact same scene, but with an angry Yorkshireman, a constantly swearing Australian, and John Wick - for some reason.
Yes when Payday 2 is at its best it is one of the most satisfying First Person Shooters on the market. Running through banks, grabbing bag loads of cash, and laying waste to anything that gets in your way ticks all of the right boxes our monkey brains need when it comes to pure entertainment. Sure it isn't going to win any awards for narrative, but sometimes that's okay.
Of course that's how it starts. Then you realise just how much of a *grind* the game is.
If you want to actually advance then Payday 2 quickly becomes a slog. Sure this is easy in the early game, running basic heists with friends and slowly escalating. But soon you'll be doing the same heist over and over again, farming exp needed to even go up a single level.
Good luck getting past the game's second infamy level - of which there are a total of twenty five - without putting in *hundreds* of hours.
