10 Brilliant Video Games Buried Under TERRIBLE Mechanics

2. Far Cry 2 - Malaria

Far Cry 2 is a game of a different time, and that means it came before Far Cry 3 doomed the industry to the tried and true open world formula. Nobody likes using towers to uncover the map, please stop.

But always remember things could be worse. As in a deadly disease presented as a button prompt to solve kinda worse.

FarCry 2 isn't exactly one of the most revolutionary games of all time, but it is a damn fine FPS. So when in the middle of a fire fight the player is reminded that they're dying of malaria and they've ran out of meds it really works to kill the buzz of mindless violence.

Worse than that the whole process requires the player to often travel - in a game with limited fast travel options mind you - across the entire map in search of the single man in all of Africa with any medicine. Then a few hours later they'll just have to repeat the process all over again.

The whole ordeal is one of the reasons many wont have finished FarCry 2. It just makes the whole adventure feel like a slog, and that's something a video game should never be.
