10 Brilliantly Written Characters Ruined By Game Mechanics

8. Colonel Autumn - Fallout 3

Red dead redemption 2 dutch

Colonel Autumn is a brilliant villain for the story of Fallout 3 and a character that, even if you hate him, you have to commend his dedication to his cause.

As the Colonel of the genocidal Enclave, Autumn is a fearsome soldier who has earned quite the reputation for himself, both in terms of his combat abilities and his resourcefulness. This, combined with his absolute obsession over his faction's mission of "purifying" the wasteland, makes him a truly intimidating and worthy adversary for the player.

Unfortunately, it all falls apart right at the grand finale of the game, and it is all due to Fallout 3's combat system. Mainly, that it's as derpy as a kid on anesthesia after having their wisdom tooth pulled out.

If the player decides to have a final showdown with Colonel Autumn in the Project Purity chamber, the man certainly doesn't live up to his reputation. Instead of being a cold and calculated military man, Autumn will simply stand there, letting you unload a full magazine on him using your VATS and turn his brain into goop.

The man goes down so fast, it's almost insulting. A random raider would likely put up more of a fight than him.
