Easily among the most popular Star Wars characters to never feature in a movie, Kyle Katarn led a bunch of tie-in games in the 90s and 2000s, with his final two titles, Jedi Knight and Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, remaining some of the best and most fan adored SW releases.
Blending killer, weighty lightsaber combat with a whole bunch of force abilities, for some the pinnacle of Jedi-focused games came with these two releases. Even better, they sold well too, so why did a third game never materialise?
Well, a sequel was in development, subtitled Brink of Darkness, and was actually going to round off Kyle Katarn's story. After so many years and so many games, the character was going to get an ending in one final outing, but LucasArts essentially decided to go for something completely different instead.
Jedi Knight 3 was one of the many, many projects thrown around when the studio was eyeing up a new slate of Star Wars games in the 2000s, and the company decided to gamble on something new instead, rather than another outing for a decade-old character.
