It might be difficult to remember now, but when EA picked up the Star Wars license, there was hope. Real hope. Sure, it sucked that LucasArts had to be sacrificed, but the studios working for the new publisher were incredibly talented, including the now-shuttered Visceral Games.

EA quickly put two games into production, a Battlefront reboot and an untitled story-driven game at the aforementioned studio. Dubbed Project Ragtag, the game was going to be an action-adventure experience focusing on a bunch of scoundrels. Even better, it was being directed by Amy Hennig, who joined the studio after finishing Uncharted 3.

Despite the talent on board, high expectations from fans and a marketing campaign that had already kicked into gear, EA cancelled the game and shut Visceral Games down. Though the messy development was documented in detail by Kotaku, the final straw came down to EA not believing in single-player games, and wanting something closer to a live service that fans wouldn't trade in after playing once.
