4. The Many Versions Of Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil 4 revitalized the franchise and changed the 3rd person genre forever. But before we got to this point, there were many versions of Capcom's fourth installment.
The first version is called the 'fog' version. As Leon S. Kenedy, players were tasked to infiltrate a castle while being hunted down by a Black Fog. Soon enough, Leon would be infected by a virus and gain powers from it.
The next version is entitled the 'Hook Man' version. Here, Leon would have faced off against the Hook Man while featuring new enemies that were supernatural compared to the franchise's cast of zombies and lickers. From living dolls, moving suits of armor, and other apparations, this was intended to take Resident Evil in a new direction.
Finally, the last version before the game we got was the "hallucination' version. Though not much was revealed in this iteration, it would have made Resident Evil 4 scarier with Leon going through the Spencer Mansion while experiencing hallucinations. Development problems led to series creator Shinji Mikami stepping in to personally cancel this version.
Though the final version of Resident Evil 4 is one of the most beloved games of all time, its previous iterations all offered interesting ideas despite being canned. It attempted to add new forms of horror to the series which was discarded by the final game's action-heavy approach.
