10 Characters Who KNEW They Were In Video Games

7. Toad - Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

Okay, well, this one isn’t specifically about Mario himself, and if we’re being honest, Mario just doesn’t share the same wit as the previous few characters on our list. However, Toad and the other characters in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, are constantly breaking the fourth wall, or at least tapping on it with a hammer.

Firstly, a certain sneaky character Mario runs into will specifically address the players in front of the TV. He tries to make sure we don’t warn Mario of his true identity, as if this was some kind of Nintendo pantomime. He’ll comment on our lust for violence and idea that it can solve everything. In response to that, I will just say that Mario’s primary mode of transport is literally jumping on people’s heads.

From here, we’ve got a nice bit of self-promotion from Nintendo, once again smelling their own gas. Little Toads - Toadlings(?) will bang on about their video game addiction, playing the new Nintendo 64, GameCube and Gameboy Advance, and how they absolutely love Fire Emblem and the Paper Mario franchise.
