10 Classic Survival Horror Video Games That Are Still Terrifying
8. The X-Files: Resist or Serve
The idea of adapting The X-Files into a survival horror game is a no-brainer, and it's amazing that it took until late in the Playstation 2's lifecycle for it to happen.
Thankfully the wait was worth it, as The X-Files: Resist or Serve is both a solid horror game, as well as a brilliant translation of the show.
Bolstered by both David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprising their roles as Mulder and Scully, this game genuinely feels like you're playing an episode of the show. Everything from the agent's banter, to the eerie music, and the slowly unraveling plot, is designed to emulate the show's best episodes.
Gameplay-wise, this is a shameless Resident Evil clone, even going so far as having seperate-yet-intertwined story campaigns for both Mulder and Scully, as well as semi-fixed camera angles, resource management mechanics, and an emphasis on puzzle-solving. Meaning that despite being a little old-fashioned, it will certainly appeal to genre enthusiasts.
It is a little rough around the edges, with wonky animations and a handful of disorientating camera-angles scattered around the place, but as a whole Resist or Serve is an oft-forgotten gem of the genre and by far the best The X-Files video game.
