10 Classic Survival Horror Video Games That Are Still Terrifying
6. System Shock 2
To call System Shock 2 a classic would be an understatement. The level of innovation and influence this game has had on gaming as a whole is truly staggering, and despite a steep learning curve, it's still a treat to play even today.
Set aboard a deserted space station, players must brave a series of unspeakable horrors to recover their lost memories, all the while forming an uneasy partnership with Shodan - a less than friendly A.I. supercomputer that you certainly do not want to trust.
Unlike many other games in the genre, System Shock 2 features robust RPG mechanics, with players being able to learn specific skills such as computer hacking, or psionic attacks that grant them a much stronger arsenal.
This open-ended approach to gameplay does mean that you can tackle each scenario in a number of ways, but no matter your loadout and stats, you're still going to struggle when faced with the horrifically mutated crewmen or sinister robot workers that want to see you dead.
With an upcoming remake of the first game on the horizon, there's really no better time to dive into the moody and oppressive sci-fi world of System Shock.
