10 Classic Video Games That DON'T Hold Up
4. Sonic Adventure
On the whole, old school 3D platformers have had trouble ageing well and Sonic Adventure is absolutely no exception.
The 1998 Sega Dreamcast adventure was massively praised on release for its visuals, so much so it was just about the best any video game had ever looked at the time. Critics were less kind to the game’s FMV cutscenes and voice acting but the gameplay was generally quite impressive.
Having said that even back in the 90s this one caught some flack for having an incredibly frustrating camera and boy that hasn’t changed. The voice-acting might be worth it for the comedic value but otherwise it’s cringe-inducing and the controls have aged like milk. I know this one has its fans but unfortunately it’s hard to pinpoint many things in this game that haven't aged badly. From the movement to the level design and story progression, it’s tedious at best and frustrating at worst. You might be able to forgive it if it’s a childhood favourite but otherwise you’re likely to struggle to get joy out of this one.
I’d like to say that chilling with the blue blur is never a bad thing but if you’re considering going back to Sonic Adventure I’d suggest spending your time with literally any other game.
