10 Classic Video Games You Didn’t Realise Had Sequels

7. Excitebike Bun Bun Mario Battle Stadium

Jak and Daxter: The Last Frontier
Nintendo

If you owned a Nintendo Entertainment System, you should be acquainted with Excitebike. Before Mario Kart, Burnout, or Gran Turismo, this motocross title was the gold standard of racers.

If you're an avid fan, you should be familiar with its successors, including Excitebike 64, Excite Truck, and Excitebike: World Rally (even though it was rubbish).

If you drink, sleep, and eat these games, you may be baffled that you never heard of Excitebike Bun Bun Mario Stadium. (If you think that title is bad, it's alternate name, Excitebike BS, isn't much better.)

Bun Bun Stadium is a SNES remake of Excitebike, where all the racers have been swapped out with Mario characters. Because slapping Mario's name on any product makes it far more recognisable, gamers are bewildered why they haven't heard of Bun Bun Stadium before.

However, this reboot could only be played on a SNES with a Satellaview attached - an add-on available only in Japan. The Satellaview allowed owners to download new titles or features in existing games, which was pretty groundbreaking in the 1990s.

The technology never made it to the west, which is why most of the world is oblivious to Satellaview or Bun Bun Stadium's existence.
