10 Classic Video Games You Didn’t Realise Had Sequels

4. Shining Force III

Jak and Daxter: The Last Frontier
Camelot Software Planning

For many Genesis owners, Shining Force was their first taste of turn-based RPGs. People were won over by this Sega title due to it's easy-to-pick-up gameplay, bopping soundtrack, and detailed graphics, which are impressive even today.

The game's success inspired a sequel the following year, as well as several spin-offs. But when Camelot took over the property, it looked like the company was going to take Shining Force III to new heights of excellence. Not only would this be the first game in the series in 3D, the threequel would be released on three CDs, allowing data to be saved and transferred to other discs. (I know FFVII did it before but it was a still a novel idea at the time.)

Unfortunately, Shining Force III was only released on the Saturn - a console that pretty much nobody bought.

That's not a great start... but it gets worse. Shining Force III Episode 1 sold so badly, the second and third disc were never made available in America or Europe. So, if you were among the very few people who actually played the first chapter of Shining Force III, you may not have known there were two other parts of the game.
