10 Clone Video Games That Are Better Than The Original
5. Crash Team Racing (Mario Kart)
If you were to ask a random person what's the first kart racing game that comes to mind, the answer would almost certainly be Mario Kart.
The series has been a staple of the genre, and many similar titles, like Diddy Kong Racing or Sonic Team Racing, were direct results of the Mario games' overwhelming success. Most of these clones are good in their own right, but there's only one that managed to outdo the kart master - Crash Team Racing.
There are many parts of Crash Team Racing that go beyond the typical Mario Kart experience. The game features a fun and engaging story mode, distinct and charming characters, as well as challenging boss fights with special gimmicks, none of which are present in Mario Kart.
However, most importantly, Crash beats Mario in the most fundamental aspect of any racing game - the driving experience. Crash Team Racing's controls are easy to learn but hard to master, making it the perfect experience for both casual and hardcore gamers.
The only thing Mario Kart does noticeably better is its online mode, and even then, it's mostly because it has a bigger playerbase.
Sorry, Mario, but you got out-karted.
