10 Controversial Gaming Opinions You Should Keep To Yourself
3. Loot Boxes Aren't Bad
Loot boxes aren't all bad. Put the pitchforks down and listen.
In theory, they are a way for players who don't have the time to acquire cosmetic items with real money. In theory, they are a reasonable idea that allows companies to make bonus revenue off of people who are invested in their games but simply don't have the time. And in theory, they aren't the abhorrent mess that people make them out to be.
However, in practice, they have been implemented by greedy companies who want nothing but the shakedown their players to get the full experience from a game they have already paid full price for.
That is not to excuse companies like EA and projects like Battlefront 2. There is a distinction between badly marketted loot box systems and explicit extortion. Sure, loot boxes are a bit despicable and scummy, but they aren't the devil incarnate. They are a flawed system being exploited by greedy people. Given time, they could become something great.
