Another anime-themed title to shake things up in the sports genre of video games, Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions is a 2020 football game developed by Tamsoft for Windows, PS4 and Nintendo Switch. Based off the 2018 Captain Tsubasa series, the game has a unique cartoonish look and a plethora of features that have never before been seen in the soccer subgenre of games.

Rise of New Champions lets players choose from a selection of modes both online and offline that revolve around establishing a legendary soccer legacy, all of which combine to make this feel more like a grandiose journey movie rather than a soccer simulation.

On the pitch in New Champions, anything goes. Players will regularly dive in Super Saiyan-style and absolutely clatter into players, and even if it's late, from behind or studs up and in the chest, there won't be any officials, fouls or cards to come out and help players.

There are also unique commentator quips after bouts of play, taglines for players on the pitch and unique cinematic animations to help sell this story-over-simulation style even more.

Horror fan, gamer, all round subpar content creator. Strongly believes that Toad is the real hero of the Mario universe, and that we've probably had enough Batman origin stories.
