10 Crazy Video Game Fan Theories That Predicted The Future
6. Gouken Is Real - Street Fighter
Gouken is the master of Ryu and Ken from Street Fighter. His presence within the series is pretty well established at this point, but originally, it was part of an unbelievable urban legend.
The old master was originally believed to be a secret boss in Street Fighter II, and it's all due to an April Fools' prank done by the Electronic Gaming Monthly magazine back in 1992.
The paper took a mistranslation of one of Ryu's quotes where he refers to a mysterious "Shen Long" and used it to convince people that they can fight the aforementioned stranger if they perform a specific sequence of actions.
Though the article was meant to be a joke, many people took it seriously and not only believed Shen Long could be fought, but also that he is Ken and Ryu's master who would eventually make an appearance as a playable character in a sequel.
Now, a prediction made out of a hoax article may not sound like the most accurate thing, but surprisingly the only mistake those believing in Shen Long's cameo made was that his real name was Gouken.
The old master debuted in prequel, Street Fighter Alpha, released shortly after Street Fighter II, and the rest is history.
