Poes are ghostly and elusive enemies that haunt graveyards and other gloomy locations in several titles of The Legend of Zelda franchise. Fun fact: the name of this mocking apparition was inspired by (arguably) the greatest horror master in the history of literature, Edgar Allan Poe. So it stands to reason that this particular foe would become an indispensable mainstay of the supernatural facet of the series.

In a world filled with quirky characters and colorful landscapes, the presence of these ghastly phantoms might seem like an oddity with no obvious explanation. Be that as it may, it should always be remembered that the history of Hyrule has been plagued with war and conflict since ancient times, so this prosperous realm also has a dubious side that is often forgotten.

Later on, this enemy acquired a far more interesting set of abilities. This is established in Poe’s description in the Nintendo Gallery from The Wind Waker: “These ghostly creatures have no physical form, so physical attacks pass right through them. S

hining light on them with the Mirror Shield makes them take form”. Let the Poe strike first and counterattack as quickly as you can, you’re the only ghostbuster in this neighborhood.
