10 Creepiest Video Game Enemies That Gave Everyone Nightmares

4. Scissorman (Clocktower)

While some would cite Resident Evil or Silent Hill as the first real survival horror game, there were plenty of precursors that helped shape the genre before the release of those defining titles. One of those milestones was Capcom's 1996 point-and-click adventure game Clock Tower (or Clock Tower 2 in Japan - the original wasn't released in other territories.) Before my time, I didn't have the luxury of playing the unique puzzle game until years after it became a cult sensation, but even then, it was still an absolutely terrifying experience. You spend the entire game being stalked by the fan-titled Scissorman, who'd mess up your puzzle-solving gameplay by forcing you to escape and hide so you wouldn't be chopped to bits. Although the design of the slasher is rather silly in itself, the tension that builds around each of the villain's appearances often hits fever pitch, and the unpredictable nature of the Scissorman meant even the most innocuous of locations were filled with utter terror.
