10 Criminally Underrated Video Games That Deserve A Second Chance
6. Brigador
Why it got overlooked:
Another indie that just didn't have the advertising budget to make itself heard above the waves of competitors around it.
Additionally, it was perhaps too nostalgic for some, unashamedly taking inspiration from the classic, isometric, mech-piloting simulators. The old-style look and gameplay was perhaps a reason for the early mixed reviews that put off some younger players.
Why it deserves a second chance:
If you liked the original BattleTech, Syndicate or MechWarrior games, Brigador is a a spiritual successor. The game allows you to choose from a number of different mechs before dropping you inside one of nine neon-soaked districts. The game revels in the anarchy of the wide array of weapons your mech and pilot can use to destroy wave after wave of enemy, levelling the buildings and cities around you.
The graphics are smooth and nostalgic, the soundtrack is straight out of the 80s (think Blood Dragon), and gameplay is all about the old fun arcade strategy of rampaging through an environment and destroying everything you can see. This is furthered by the inability to save in-game.
Once you start a level, you have to finish it!
