10 Critically-Acclaimed 2013 Video Games (With Major Gameplay Flaws)

4. Repetition - Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

The announcement of Assassin's Creed IV was met with some trepidation. It seemed like a good idea, but would it just be more of the same? Happily, AC 4 shattered expectations, becoming one of the best in the series. Yes, it was more of the same, but when the same has been improved this much, should it really matter? This Assassin's Creed was helped out tremendously due to its beautiful setting. Not only does this beautifully rendered version of the Caribbean look great, but there's a huge list of things to do. Hunting, crafting, looting, sailing, assassinating, and more, adds a feeling of life and consequence to this world. However, with more of the same comes more of the same problems. The Assassin's Creed franchise has been heavily criticized for being repetitive, and although Black Flag has slightly remedied this problem, it's still present. The naval battles, while improved from AC 3, become tiresome after a time. They are optional, but the problem comes in because they need to be undertaken in order to acquire the necessary resources for updating your ship. This essentially defeats the point of the naval battles being an optional feature.
