10 Critically Reviled Video Game Movies (That Really Aren't THAT Bad)

2. Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time

Critics Consensus: "It doesn't offer much in the way of substance, but Prince of Persia is a suitably entertaining swashbuckler -- and a substantial improvement over most video game adaptations."

Disney's adaptation of Ubisoft's Prince of Persia made history back in 2010 by becoming the highest-grossing video game film ever at the time, but it wasn't exactly a massive hit with critics - as some didn't like the tone, the lack of depth or even Jake Gyllenhaal's performance as Prince Dastan.

However, that doesn't mean it isn't worth your time because, to be frank, it most certainly is. Unapologetically gratuitous when it comes to special effects and CGI, the film is a visual masterpiece that uses the environments around the story to bring it to life, allowing them to serve as antagonists in a way that offers up many video game-like moments.

More importantly, it has a strong central narrative that actually feels like the plot of a video game and, yes, in spite of what some critics may believe, Gyllenhaal does a superb job in the leading role.

A complete adventure from start to finish with stakes that would make the game proud, Prince of Persia was a more than worthy film to hold the title of the highest-grossing video game adaptation for six years.
