9. Giant Mole Rat - Fallout 3

Swan Concept Art
Bethesda

Mole Rats are another mainstay of the Fallout series, appearing in various forms - hairy, albino, pig, pup, even glowing. While they may not seem that intimidating (I mean, the name is even cute), a low-level character who gets surrounded by these buck-toothed buggers is in for a fight.

What Mole Rats have not appeared as is a rideable creature. Fallout 3 was to feature a Giant Mole Rat, large enough to attach a saddle and gear to before climbing on board. Despite the novelty of a mount creature in Fallout, anyone with a fear of rodents would absolutely not be cool with climbing aboard a giant mutated rat, no matter how much time it saved.

Bethesda absolutely has the scripting for rideable creatures (as evidenced by Skyrim), so it is surprising that the Fallout series hasn't yet featured this. We did have the Highwayman to ferry us around in Fallout 2, but that was in 2D and didn't actually feature any animation. Video game tech came far enough since then that creating a mountable creature even in the days of Fallout 3 would not have been that much of a stretch.

While it may have been an interesting addition, the concept art of the Giant Mole Rat certainly doesn't do anything to improve the looks or reputation of the breed, giving it massive teeth and claws and a mostly hairless pelt.
