10 Cut Fallout Enemies Designed To Give You Nightmares

8. Catfish Mirelurk - Fallout 3

Swan Concept Art
Bethesda

Mirelurks, introduced in Fallout 3, instantly became an iconic enemy. With their scuttling legs (who can forget that sound in the dark sewers under D.C.?), heavily armoured body, and '50s monster-movie vibe, they were a great addition to the ranks of Fallout's baddies.

While the basic version of the Mirelurk was based on a radiation-mutated blue crab, other specimens were added to the game (and even more in Fallout 4) to provide a variety of different encounters as the player levelled up.

A variant that did not make it's way to the game was a Mirelurk that was created from the common catfish. If you've never seen a catfish, they are...not attractive. They have massive mouths with human-looking lips, protruding bug eyes, and several whiskery feelers on the undersides of their mouths. They can grow to tremendous lengths, and reach hundreds of pounds.

Fallout 3 proposed to take this already ugly fish, mutate it, and give it a massive, muscular body. Unlike normal Mirelurks, the Catfish variation would have stood on two legs, giving it a look very similar to the Creature From the Black Lagoon, and making it, presumably, easily able to chase you.

The long whiskers in the concept art alone are enough to put you off seafood.
