10 Darkest Vaults In Fallout History

2. Vault 11

Now we’re down to the indisputably gruesome ones. Let’s start with Vault 11, that managed to end in mass homicide and suicide without the use of drugs or viruses. Just old fashioned sociopathic human psychology.

Vault 11 functioned with a disturbing annual tradition, each year a vault dweller must be sacrificed or else everyone in the vault would be killed. This crappy condition was conveyed through the vault’s computer overseer and unsurprisingly the group voted the human Overseer first off the island. Of existence. From that point, The Overseer then became the automatic sacrifice and elections were held to choose who would be in charge-slash-be killed. The process ultimately caused the formation of a number of voting blocs. One particularly powerful bloc threatened a female vault dweller called Katherine Stone into performing sexual favours for their members so they wouldn’t vote for her husband to be sacrificed.

Well, wouldn’t you know, they voted him in anyway so in turn Ms Stone started shanking members of the bloc. She admitted to her crimes and was elected as the next Overseer/sacrifice.

In a clever move, her first act as Overseer was to replace the current sacrifice system with a random lottery. The voting blocs were understandably not keen on this change and staged an armed coup. The bloodbath left only five survivors who, devastated by the violence, chose to defy the computer and commit suicide together. Turns out that’s what the computer wanted all along. It congratulated the group on their defiance and informed them they’d finally succeeded by refusing to sacrifice anyone. Just many, many deaths too late. Disturbing audio files revealed that upon learning this, four of the five survivors opted to commit suicide anyway due to their overwhelming guilt.
