10 Dastardly Ways To Cheat Your Way To RPG Glory

5. Final Fantasy VII - Infinite Regen Exploit

Final Fantasy games have, sometimes, been incredibly unforgiving. Battles can turn from bad to worse in a matter of moments if the wrong decision is made. This effect is made worse by turn based combat, which just makes it more annoying when you realize you didn't block on any of your party members and the enemy's super mega ultra death sweeping beam attack which should really be blocked is charged and ready. Final Fantasy VII is arguably the most famous one of all the Final Fantasy games, personally i'm not too sure why. It's a great game but I forgot about Final Fantasy when I played Dragon Quest VIII. With Final Fantasy came this exploit. By casting the regeneration spell on a party member and opening the disc tray or lifting the lid to stop the disc from spinning the regeneration effect would keep going, uninterrupted by an attack from any enemy. This trick can be effectively used to continuously heal your party back to full health at any point during the game. This trick only works because attacks in the game run off the disc, meaning the disc must be spinning for an attack to be made. Regen is a continuous effect and the game still allows time to pass during the battle, even when the disc is not spinning to allow time for it to be continued. Infinite health used to be one of the first cheats that would be discovered in most games, and looking back I feel bad for using them in games as it distracts from the challenge. When used in a game like this though when tactics and consequences make up a huge part of that challenge it's just a dick move.
