10 Dead Video Game Characters You Can Actually Save

7. Greirat - Dark Souls III

Early on in Dark Souls III you may encounter Greirat the Thief, imprisoned on the High Wall of Lothric (probably for thieving people). At first you might be hesitant to free the little weirdo out of fear he doesn't seem trustworthy. Then again, maybe that's just the trauma of freeing that jerk Lautrec in the first Dark Souls talking. Ooh I hate that guy.

He later appears as a merchant at Fire Link Shrine, where he'll offer to embark on thief adventures to expand his inventory. However, these outings are increasingly dangerous, to the point where it becomes clear he has a death wish.

For many, he will never return from his second outing. There are only two ways to save him: If you tell his friend Patches that he left, then Patches saves him. If Patches isn't there, then you have to proceed through Irythill up to encountering Siegward, kill a boss, then return to Firelink where Greirat will tell you he was saved by Siegward.

Whatever you decide to do, know there is no way to save him from dying on his third time out. He's pretty determined to die.
