When Naughty Dog developed the original Jak and Daxter game for the PlayStation 2, they created a groundbreaking, fun, open-world 3D action adventure masterpiece. The game is the pinnacle of the genre, with hilarious characters, brilliant visuals and incredible level design.

The game spawned two darker sequels, giving the previously silent protagonist Jak a voice and plunging the lovable characters into a dystopian world with guns, vehicles and cityscapes. Whilst the lighthearted tone of the original game was gone, the sequels introduced interesting mechanics, more creative characters and an engrossing story.

The franchise also included several spin off titles such as the racing game Jak X or the PlayStation portable game focused on the furry companion, Daxter. So why has such a beloved franchise not received a new entry since 2009?

Well, developer Naughty Dog has been busy crafting smash hit exclusive titles for the PlayStation platform, with Uncharted and the Last of Us becoming the main focus for the studio.

They have stated that Jak and Daxter is never off the table however, so for now we can hold out hope that the dynamic duo will return at some point in the near future.
