10 Dead Video Game Franchises That Need To Return
7. Castlevania
Castlevania is an iconic, gothic action adventure series that has been incredibly influential across the industry. Revolved around vampire hunters, the original game was released in 1986 and has since received dozens of entries on numerous systems.
The franchise has recently inspired a successful Netflix animated series, which has received four seasons to a largely positive response from viewers. With interest in Castlevania soaring again, why have we not seen a new entry in the long running series?
The last release was Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 back in 2014 to generally mixed reviews and underwhelming sales figures. With Konami's recent shift toward mobile markets and the poor sales performance of the later Castlevania games, things are not looking good for a new entry any time soon.
A couple of Castlevania characters have recently made their way into Nintendo's popular fighting game, Super Smash Brothers Ultimate through DLC packs. Between this and the popular Castlevania Anniversary Collection, it's not hard to see there is still some interest in the property from both developers and fans.
Let's just hope that hype generated from the Netflix show can inspire a new game in the coming years.
