10 Demos That Made You AVOID Video Games
6. Wonderbook: Book Of Spells
Video game companies have a tendency to go hard on new and unproven technologies. That's been the case with motion controls, touch controls, and VR. Eventually they get it, but the proving ground for these technologies is often the development of pricey retail products that we pay for.
Basic motion controls had already suffered years of bad E3 stage demos due to technical interference. So you'd think Sony would have known better than show off their new augmented reality Harry Potter game - Wonderbook: Book Of Spells - live on stage.
The idea of a prop book come to life on screen is already lame. But when the person playing on stage can't get the game to register even very basic symbols needed to cast spells, you start to wonder if motion controls have made any progress at all.
Add to that the fact that the game looked like crap and the whole thing becomes questionable. Who is it for? It wasn't worth the price of entry for casual gamers who were Harry Potter fans, and a game where you turn pages of a book doesn't exactly scream hardcore gamer either. Even the budget price tag was a little much to ask for this literal novel-ty.
