10 Demos That Made You AVOID Video Games

2. Fallout 76

Forspoken game
Bethesda

When Fallout 76 was announced as a multiplayer survival title, the reaction was already mixed. A sizeable chunk of Bethesda fans had been wanting a multiplayer Fallout for years. And yet, this wasn't quite what they had in mind.

That's because upon launching the public beta test, Fallout 76's multiplayer felt immediately dated. Like MMO RPGs in the 2000s, every player was the same "chosen one" in each of their stories. Locations weren't instanced to each user, defaulting to the EverQuest days when players would line up for their turn at an objective or potential loot drop.

And of course, there was frick all to do in a world devoid of NPCs. Bethesda's intention was that actual players would fill the world, but the elderly Creation Engine just wasn't built to accommodate. Everything about 76 was still a single player Fallout game, just with other people around and the occasional group quest.

Somehow all this wasn't enough to turn enough people away before the game's infamously disastrous launch. Lots of improvements have since been made, but the beta showed that Fallout 76 was releasing in a notably less than finished state.
