4. Choice Systems

While choice systems arent the oldest trend, it seems to be a trend that doesnt seem to be going anywhere. What makes me very upset are these choice systems have all the freedom and flexibility of shackles in a medieval prison. My issue is the supposed right and wrong answers are very black and white and dont leave any room for the various shades of grey that when you think about it, can be far worse then the hypothetical evil choice. For example, say I have the choice to help an elderly lady across the road; the right answer would obviously be helping her safely to the other side, and the wrong answer would be to leave her stranded. My problem however, is why cant I help her across the road, but for a ridiculous fee? Thats not exactly the right thing to do, but shes on the other side isnt she? Or why can't I grab her by the legs and toss her across the road where she breaks her back on impact. You might say that that is absurd and wouldnt fit with the games tone, but that is what choice is; having the ability to make decisions no matter how imbecilic they may be. So rather than a choice system, Id wish theyd change it to: Somewhat choice, but in reality, two pre-set narratives that more often than not, will amount to very little difference. Its not a catchy title I know, but it's a start.
