AAA game development loves its trend-chasing, and in the early 2010s, that trend was "Always Online". One of the most infamous examples of this was, without a doubt, SimCity 2013.

This is not only because of the use of the concept itself, but because of the utterly awful way it went about it. There was NO single-player mode back then, you either played it online, or you did not play it at all. And even when you were online it didn't work most of the time.

This flagrant betrayal of the niche audience for the once legendary PC god-game series caused SimCity 2013 to go down as one of the most bombastic flops of 2013. With that reputation, it can be hard to pitch going back to it and giving it another shot, but if you can believe it, it's actually been fixed since then. A full single-player mode has been added to the game in the years since its release. And turns out, shock and horror, when you fix that little issue SimCity 2013 is - dare I say - GOOD!
