8. Roman & Kate - Grand Theft Auto IV

At the end of GTA 4 you’re given a pretty important choice. Long story short, Jimmy Pegorino asks Niko to pull off a heroin deal with the game’s main antagonist Dimitri Rascalov which all told would make Niko a cool quarter million. You’ve got a couple of paths here and your closest friends Roman and Kate both have an opinion about it.

Roman reckons you can get over your beef with Rascalov and enjoy the cash whereas Kate warns not to abandon your principles and that Rascalov is not to be trusted.

In classic GTA fashion, bloodshed waits for you down either road. If you decide to take the deal you quickly find out Rascalov has no intention of playing nice, but after shooting a bunch of dudes you do eventually get your hands on all that cash. Unfortunately at Roman and Mallorie’s wedding the following day, a man with a gun rocks up telling Niko it’s a gift from Rascalov. Niko takes him down but not before a stray shot is fired which finds itself in Roman’s chest. Niko becomes enraged and empties the rest of the bullets in the man but it’s too late for our bowling-obsessed cousin.

If that’s not rough enough, you find out later that his new bride is pregnant with Roman’s baby.

In the other path you take your revenge and head straight to Rascalov with the intention of betraying him. You take him out and the wedding goes on as planned. In this decision path Kate isn’t pissed with you so she comes along, but Jimmy Pegorino is pretty pissed you screwed over his big deal. After the ceremony he drives by cussing out Niko and hailing down bullets at the crowd, and in the ensuing chaos Niko realises Kate has been killed.
