2. Beyond: Two Souls
Quantic Dream is an interesting company: on one hand, they make incredible games like Heavy Rain, and on the other hand they make unintentionally hilarious games like Heavy Rain. David Cage and company have incredible ideas, they just aren't very well executed. Whether it is the always complained about quick-time-events, or an insanely awkward sex scene in the middle of Ethan Mars' frantic search for his son, it seems there is no happy medium between the great moments and the cringe-worthy ones. However, all that was about to change when Quantic Dream released the tech demo Kara: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0KTUysrwgQ This tech demo had everyone talking and asking why this wasn't going to be a game. It showed such potential but everyone guessed they were just buttering us up for something even better, so when E3 2012 rolled around and David Cage took the stage we knew we were in for something good. When he announced that Ellen Page would play the lead character in his new game Beyond: Two Souls everyone assumed this couldn't possibly disappoint. But, as is the theme of this article, Beyond: Two Souls was extremely disappointing. Not even some of the best actors in the world, like Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe, could save the awkward writing. And the cool and interesting concepts proposed in the E3 demo ended up going into cliché and bizarre scenarios, that have you asking yourself how did the game end up here? What exactly is going on? And just what the hell am I doing? Ultimately, what one assumed would be an incredible, gripping, paranormal tale that would be just as intense and captivating as Heavy Rain was left with an over-dramatic paranormal soap opera. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFxAJ3eaaC8
