10 Disappointing Video Games That Never Lived Up To The Hype

4. Resident Evil 6

GTA definitive edition
Ubisoft

After the ultimate smash that was Resident Evil 4 along with the great success of the multiplayer elements of Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil 6 was set to be the biggest game in the series. For the first time players would have the option to play through 4 different campaigns featuring fan favourite protagonists from the series.

Upon release in 2012 however, fans received a very different game to the one initially promised. In a misguided assumption developer Capcom had decided that the survival horror market at the time was just way too small to be profitable. Instead they opted to take the game down the more action shooter orientated route to compete with the likes of Call Of Duty.

As a result the finished game was nothing more than a generic shooter that didn't feel anything like a Resident Evil game. Whilst the gameplay was fun and the game was well made, it just lacked the horror and the heart and the soul of the earlier games in what was a massive fall from grace for Capcom.

The reception of the game was so disastrous from fans that it forced the series to reinvent itself for 2017's Resident Evil 7, which ditched most of the action elements in favour of a more traditional survival horror.
