10 Divisive Video Games You Either Love Or Hate
1. Dark Souls
Dark Souls divided people from the offset and while it's slowly grown in popularity over the years, with the later instalments becoming more accessible, the original game still divides people to this day.
The fans who adored it adored it to an almost fanatical degree and it's easy to see why. On a technical scale, the game is incredible. The level and world design are like no other, the combat is weighty and feels great and the characters are loveable and brilliantly written.
However, the part of the game that split the crowds was the difficulty. Actually getting into the game often required outside help, with frequent trips to the wiki becoming necessary just to find out where you had to go next. The game's devotion to immersion left a lot of players alienated and stumbling into high-level areas or making the game inadvertently harder for themselves just by trying to figure out the mechanics.
The learning curve ultimately turned the majority of people away and the somewhat elitist fanbase telling people simply to 'Git Gud' didn't exactly help people get into the game.
