10 Divisive Video Games You Either Love Or Hate
3. GTA IV
GTA IV really split the fans and ultimately paid the price for it. Some fans praised the grittier, down to earth gameplay and how the game felt a lot more real than previous instalments, whilst others felt the game took the wrong approach to open world sandboxes and favoured the cathartic destruction Saint's Row provided.
It boiled down to which aspects of the previous games you found entertaining. Either the realism of the world and the story aspects, or the bombastic destruction of simply being let loose on the world. There were, of course, other technical issues that were prevalent with the driving and shooting mechanics feeling a bit clunky, but what divided fans was the different approach the game took.
And coming off the success of the previous instalments, the game had a lot to live up too and for a lot of people, it didn't hit that mark. However, the game still did well commercially and had people praising the game as the best in series, leaving the general consensus on the game's quality largely skewed.
