10 Dream N64 Games We Need On Nintendo Switch

5. 40 Winks

This is cheating slightly as the N64 version was never actually released, but this distinctively animated platformer would have been right at home on the ovaloid cartridge. An N64 player could pick up the controller without having heard a whisper of this game and feel right at home in its atmospheric collectathon trappings.

40 Winks takes place in a dream world, where a pair of sleeping twins has been tasked with restoring the world’s good dreams, which have been stolen by the villainous (and neatly monickered) Nitekap. If it sounds cutesy, well, it is. It’s an N64 platformer, or it would have been had it not been cancelled at the last.

Any fan of Mario or Banjo will feel right at home in the gently spooky dream worlds players navigate. There are enemies to conquer, things to jump on, and most importantly, plenty of stuff to collect.

The N64’s era was a golden age for the 3D platformer, and while 40 Winks isn’t on the top tier of the genre, it does so much right and would be more suited to this console than anywhere else. Bring it home, Nintendo.
