10 Early Game Enemies That Came As A Nasty Surprise
9. The Mun – Kerbal Space Program
Some might say that a moon is not an enemy and should not be on this list. Well, to those people I say; try the landing yourself, and you’ll quickly change your mind.
Even though the Mun is the closest body to Kerbin and thus the logical place to go after reaching orbit, it is not easy to land on. Out of the nine moons in the Kerbol system only three have a higher surface gravity and out of the eight planets the Mun is equal to one (Eeloo) and greater than another (Dres).
That means you’re coming in fast, and cancelling out that velocity translates to a lot of fuel burned, which translates to a heavy rocket. For new players just getting to orbit would have been challenging.
Getting to the Mun will require designing a rocket bigger and more complex than anything they’ve done before, and landing will require developing a capable lander from scratch.
It is as complete paradigm shift, and one hell of a difficulty spike. The good news is that the pain is worth the gain and tough lessons learned you can go pretty much anywhere. Except Eve, because the Purple Dragon eats everyone alive.
