10 Early Game Enemies That Came As A Nasty Surprise
7. The Goblins In Easthaven – Icewind Dale
No matter the which D&D game you’re playing, Goblins tend to serve as nothing more than cannon fodder for adventuring parties to cut their teeth on. However, in the goblins located on the outskirts of Easthaven the little green punching bags finally get their revenge.
There are eight of them, four melee variants and four archers. Goblin Archers can inflict six points of damage. That’s not good, because with your party being at level one, at most level two, the highest number of hit points your mages possess will be around eight.
Ergo, these goblins can, and will, kill your mages in the space of one volley. And with the four melee Goblins blocking for them the archers can be a right pain to get to.
Assuming any of your characters survive, the deceased can – technically – be resurrected. But, since your party is at low level your cleric does not have access to resurrection spells. Instead you need to go to a priest, who charges a fortune in gold pieces, which you don’t have because you’re still in the starting town.
True, you’ll soon be killing them by the dozen but just this once the humble Goblin earned a bit of respect.
