10 Early Viral Video Games You Forgot Were Everywhere
1. Angry Birds
Angry Birds almost seems synonymous with the Iphone at this point. Despite not being a product developed by Apple themselves, Angry Birds was one of the first mobile games that really took off and made audiences realise that mobile games could actually be quite fun and worth playing. Brilliantly utilising the touch screen technology, Angry Birds almost worked as a demo as to what could be done with new Iphone.
Since its initial release in 2009 the game has gone on to grow into a multi-media franchise. There are eighteen mainline entries in the series, including crossovers with Star Wars and Transformers, as well as seven spin-off titles.
Add to this the fact that Angry Birds got not one, but two films, as well as a staggering amount of merchandise, it's hard to argue that Angry Birds isn't the most recognised mobile game in the world. There are even Angry Bird theme parks!
Have you ever wondered why the birds are facing off against evil green pigs? It's because the game was developed during the Swine Flu crisis. The illness gave the developers the idea to make the enemies sickly green pigs. The more you know!
