10 Early Viral Video Games You Forgot Were Everywhere
6. Crossy Road
There's something just so incredibly addicting about this cute little Frogger inspired game. Perhaps it's the easy to pick up gameplay, or the really nice voxel graphics, whatever it is, it's really quite difficult to put down when you start playing it. Unlike Frogger, the game actually goes on forever. Sadly, that chicken is never going to cross the road.
Released during a 'renaissance' of free to play titles on mobile, Crossy Road took the world by storm. Suddenly it was everywhere and everyone was playing it. In no time Crossy Road had been ported to a number of different brands of mobile phone as well as services such as Apple TV. You can even play it online if you fancy.
It's no surprise the game done so well. Not only was it a really simple way to kill time with for a couple of minutes, but there was a fair amount of unlockable content and free updates. Currently Crossy Road has an impressive 272 different playable characters, all unlocked by just playing the game and collecting coins or watching adverts.
