10 Early Viral Video Games You Forgot Were Everywhere
4. Clash of Clans
Clash of Clans will likely go down in history as one of the most important mobile games, spawning a whole range of clones and rip-offs over the years. It hasn't really gone away either. Sure it may not be the goliath that it used to be, but Clash of Clans is still very much prevalent in online culture and still has a respectably sized playerbase.
Clash of Clans is a bit more complicated than other entries on this list. Each player is a leader of a clan, and they must build up their bases and armies to defend their own clan while invading others. Simple enough, but the game mechanics quickly begin to stack up to form quite a complex system. Add the multiplayer element that allows you to team up with 49 other players, and you've got quite a interesting game system to play with.
Simpsons Tapped Out, Boom Beach, Gods of Olympus and Dawn of Titans all owe a degree of their success to Clash of Clans. You may not have played Clash of Clans yourself, but there is no doubt you've seen their high quality animated adverts or at least heard of it.
