10 Emotionally Intense Video Games You Need To Experience

10. Shadow Of The Colossus

At the time of its release, Shadow of the Colossus was unlike any other PS2 game because it only featured boss fights; it doesn't send endless waves of minions at you to waste your time. Because Wander spends half of his time searching for the colossi in a barren wasteland, he (and the gamer) endures excessive alone time with only his trusty stallion as his companion, and in order enhance that feeling of isolation, there's not even any background music until one of the titanic beasts appears. Once the players engage in battle, however, Shadow of the Colossus blares epic music in order to pump up their adrenaline; however, the music immediately conveys somberness once a colossus is defeated. Keep in mind that the colossi rarely pick fights with Wander, and fans often feel guilty upon murdering the first colossus, and even the black tendrils that emerge from the fallen giants and attack Wander afterwards fail to enforce the idea the homicide is justified. And then it€™s back to the grind; Wander grows increasingly lonely as he explores the wasteland, and his isolation reaches its climax once he loses his equine companion just before the final battle. Considering that the horse also doubles as the players' only friend, it's understandable if they shed a tear during this moment.
